Torn will keep up his pattern of racing every month through 2025 when he runs at Caulfield.

One thing Torn won’t be lacking in is race experience when he lines up at Caulfield.

The Ben Brisbourne-trained three-year-old will be lining up for start number 20 when he contests the Sportsbet Same Race Multi Handicap (2000m) on Saturday.

In that sphere, Torn is ‘lengths clear’ of his rivals with Verona Rupes his closest opponent who has raced 10 times prior to Saturday.

Torn started his career with Brett Cavanough in NSW and after a five run first preparation was given his one and only spell.

Resuming on November 18, Torn had three more starts for Cavanough, winning a maiden at Mudgee, before joining Brisbourne finishing fifth at Benalla, 17 days after last starting for his previous trainer.

In 11 starts for Brisbourne, Torn has been out of the money on only two occasions and has raced every month through 2025 with Saturday’s outing his first in July.

“He’s unbelievable,” Brisbourne said.

“He’s not an overly big, robust type of horse either, but every time he comes out of a run he’s bucking and squealing in a couple of days, so we see no reason to tip him out.

“He’s getting towards the end of his three-year-old year now and he’s been finishing off his races really well, so we thought we would step him up in trip.”

Torn was successful over 1500m at Bendigo on June 26 which followed placings over 1600m at his previous two attempts.

Saturday’s outing over 2000m will be his first at that distance.

“The mile doesn’t seem to pull him up,” Brisbourne said.

“He’s drawn soft on Saturday. He won’t be needing to be ridden to any extreme, so he will get his chance against his own age group.

“He’s got a bit of a liking for some give in the track, so if we can keep him up while the ground is on the soft side, that would be great.

“He came to me fit, so we’ve just been ticking him over, finding races he can be competitive in.

“He’s got a regular work rider who knows him very well, so it’s a matter of keeping him happy and he will turn up on race day.”

Joe Bowditch takes the ride on Saturday.
