Two-year-old filly Too Darn Crystal made a stunning debut in Saturday’s 1000m 2YO Maiden at Cranbourne, showcasing raw speed and dominance.
Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Junior and ridden by Joe Bowditch, the daughter of first-season sire Too Darn Hot set a blistering tempo, opening up a four-length lead and maintaining her advantage to win by three lengths over the James Cummings-trained Cloisters.
Bowditch credited the filly’s natural ability but acknowledged her keenness early in the race.
“By the time we went two strides, she was really fast, she took over,” he said.
He noted her improvement mid-race, adding, “When we got on the circle, she switched off, gave herself a breather, and was good through the line.”
While her speed is undeniable, Bowditch sees potential for further improvement.
“Once she learns to race properly and control herself, she’ll get much better.”
Too Darn Crystal looks set to make waves in the juvenile ranks.
