It may have taken to start number seven for Tisseyre to break through for her maiden victory, but the Ken and Kasey Keys stable has always had faith in the filly.
Tisseyre led throughout under the guidance of Ben Allen to take the Thelma Coster – Life Member Maiden Plate (1400m) at Sale on Wednesday which Kasey Keys said may open the way to more victories in the months ahead.
“We’ve always had a high opinion of her,” Keys told racing.com.
“At her last start at Cranbourne, she actually did her hamstring, so she’s taken a bit of work to get back together, so it’s very rewarding for the owners today.”
Tisseyre was having her first start since running second in a 1600m maiden on April 24.
Jumping from barrier five, Allen took Tisseyre ($4) across the front of the field to lead and was untroubled in scoring a 3-¾ length win from the $3.30 favourite Jenni Poppins with Fear The Impact ($10) a long neck away third.
Keys said Tisseyre had retained residual fitness from her Cranbourne effort and went into Wednesday’s race full of confidence.
“We gave her a trial a fortnight ago just to make sure she was on song and she went through the line beautifully, so we were pretty confident today,” Keys said.
Keys and her father Ken tested the filly in Stakes company during the spring and hope Wednesday’s success will be a springboard to something in the future.
“I think that’s the beauty of these meetings, they can build their confidence and hopefully after this she will be ready to take it to the next level,” Keys said.
Allen was having his first sit aboard the filly on Wednesday but had watched all her replays to get an understanding of how she raced.
“On the replays she had been running on better ground and didn’t look to have a turn of foot, but looked to sustain a gallop,” Allen said.
“It wasn’t in my plan to lead, but we began well, landed there and I thought I would get winding up before the bend, knowing the Keys’ would have her fit.
“She sustained a good gallop.”
