Just reward for Hugh Bowman in another masterclass on the big stage, Frankel got a win over Black Caviar while at Rosehill, Tommy Berry raised the bat. All that and more in this weeks edition of ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’.

KEY NEWS:

Bowman Brilliance In Oaks

Hugh Bowman produced a 12/10 aboard Senor Toba last Saturday in the Queensland Derby and just missed out on the win. The ride deserved the win but he made amends seven days later in the Queensland Oaks, producing another 12/10, this time aboard Duais, who spanked them, providing Bowman with his 99th Group l winner for his career while for trained Ed Cummings, it was his first and historic given his surname.

Frankel 1, Black Caviar 0

Frankel and Black Caviar never met on the track, but they faced off as parents for the first time at Flemington on Saturday and it was Frankel who got the points with his filly Argentia producing an electric finale to win and win well, with Invincible Caviar running a game third after leading.

100 Metro Wins For Tommy Berry

In a wonderful effort, Tommy Berry joined James McDonald with riding 100 metro winners for the season in Sydney, riding four winners on Saturday at Rosehill, closing the gap between he and J Mac at nine, but was dealt a major blow after copping a six meeting suspension, which starts next Saturday and concludes on June 23.

PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK:

What has Steve Tregea got with Incentivise? Prior to Saturday, he looked like the #1 candidate for the Provincial Stayers Final, usually run on Ipswich Cup Day. After his spank job, he might well now be #1 seed for the Ipswich Cup. That was just arrogant the way he put them away and he could be one right out of the box.

DEBUT OF THE WEEK:

During the Winter months, you often see a juvenile that looks Spring class and I think Argentia might well be that. She was dominant at Flemington on Saturday and her change up speed when asked to go was very impressive. She’s got better races in store I’d suggest so follow her.

RIDE OF THE WEEK:

Can’t get away from Hugh Bowman aboard Duais in the Oaks. 800m or so out, the chance was there to hop into the three wide line, but the horse that was three wide was a camel and had no chance, so he stayed one off, sliced his way through the field before edging into clear air and away he went. The filly was arrogant, but the ride ensured she would be.

SLAUGHTER OF THE WEEK:

Blinkers on here given I made it the best of the day on Thursday, but Chris Whiteley on Up The River at Townsville…funnily, at the time of writing this (Saturday night) there is no Stewards Report for the meeting on the Racing QLD website. I do hope questions are asked. He gave the horse a dig out of the ribs from the gate and was in the first three/four early. He then dragged back all the way to second last and in turn, spent a lot of energy with the horse pulling and he was a beaten horse 400m out. Such an ordinary ride.

HORSES TO FOLLOW:

Brutality – Wet Winter and he’ll be winning races
Port Louis – I think he’s the JJ Atkins horse
Sweet Deal – Enormous in defeat. Tatts Tiara at her mercy

ONE MORE CHANCE:

Nicci Trix – Think the Kosciuszko talk needs to be put on ice. But she can win a Highway. Not sacking her
Snowzone – Strange ride, forgiving the horse
Chief Altony – Not saying he should have won because he was out in plenty of time. Just think he wants further
Mark Of The Man – Late market push against was proven correct. Think he wants the mile now

NEVER EVER AGAIN:

Air To Air – She won’t be winning in town with her racing style
Parry Sound – He’s not a line chaser
Costello – Market loved him at odds. He did zero so I’ve had enough
Red Chase – A1 run in transit and he found nothing when asked
