Here we go … it could be a big summer season on the Polytrack at the Sunshine Coast.

A second meeting in six days has been switched from its originally scheduled track to the Sunshine Coast Polytrack with the announcement that tomorrow’s meeting at Doomben has also fallen victim to the weather with heavy rain all day in Brisbane taking the city track out of commission for its scheduled Wednesday meeting.

Last Friday’s meeting at the Sunshine Coast was switched from the turf track to the Polytrack.

A media release by Racing Queensland states:

‘The decision was made following the determination that the deluge of rain which has fallen at the venue over the past 24 hours has impacted the racing surface to the extent that there is no possibility that the track will recover in time for tomorrow’s race meeting to take place at Doomben.

‘Cognisant of the fact that such an outcome was a possibility, RQ has engaged with the Australian Trainers Association, Sunshine Coast Turf Club and Brisbane Racing Club to establish whether there might be the potential to transfer the meeting to the all-weather (poly) track at Caloundra.

‘Accordingly, and in conjunction with RQ (industry) protocol, the appropriate arrangements have now been made to transfer the race meeting to the SCTC polytrack, with the exception of the (previously rescheduled) Tattersall’s RC Recognition Stakes (Listed) which will now be contested at the Brisbane Racing Club meeting at Doomben on Saturday, December 4.’

The transfer has necessitated changes to some of the race distances and there has also been minor changes to some of the races starting limits based on safety.

RQ have also confirmed that any scratchings made prior to the race meeting being transferred are unable to be reinstated.
