Promising filly Storyville has shot to equal favouritism for the Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) at Ascot on December 7 after her impressive W.A Guineas victory.
Storyville is now an equal $7.00 top elect for the Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) with online betting sites after storming home in Saturday’s Group 2 W.A Guineas (1600m).
The Overshare filly has thrived since getting up to the mile with connections now deliberating whether they pursue Group 1 success over 1800m.
“I think she is probably only at about 80 or 90 percent of what she is capable of,” jockey William Pike said after yesterday’s success.
“Hopefully they can pick her back up and maybe they have a tilt at the next one in the Northerly.
“I think she showed a bit of grit there because I really don’t think she was as good there today as she was in the Champion Fillies. The two-week gap will definitely be good but those decisions are up to the team, they know better than I do, I turn left for a living.”
Winning co-trainer Grant Williams knows what it takes to win a Northerly Stakes having won four of them. Two of those victories were produced by three-year-old fillies, Perfect Reflection (2015) and Arcadia Queen (2018).
“She’s nominated,” Williams said of Storyville.
“We hope so (on going to the Northerly). She’s done a huge job.”
Storyville shares favouritism with Attrition who was last seen finishing fourth in the $2million Five Diamonds (1800m) at Rosehill on November 9.
Super Smink is another notable firmer for the Northerly Stakes having finished third in the Railway Stakes behind Port Lockroy.
The mare was $11 however has since moved on to the second line of betting as an $8 chance with betting sites.
She shares the second line of betting with former Northerly Stakes favourite September Born who has eased from $5 to $8 after disappointing as favourite in the Group 2 W.A Guineas (1600m) behind Storyville.
Not holding a nomination for the Northerly Stakes, Railway Stakes winner Port Lockroy has had his quote for the $1.5million Group 3 Gold Rush (1400m) at Ascot on December 14 almost halved.
Opening at $15, the son of Better Than Ready is now an equal $8 third favourite alongside Belclare and behind the likes of Western Empire ($4.50) and Lady Laguna ($7.00).
