Gawler mare out to go one better than past two starts at Morphettville Parks

The Carnival has left town and Nichole Searle would like to think it can result in a deserved victory for Tosen Water when racing returns to the Parks track at Morphettville this Saturday.

The six-year-old mare will look to go one better than her past two runs in the $65,000 Sportsbet Fast Form BM74 Handicap.

The daughter of Tosen Stardom was also an acceptor at Flemington but Searle and her training partners, husband Gary and daughter Brianna Callanan, have elected to run closer to their Gawler base and think the 1300-metre race comes up at a great stage of her preparation.

Tosen Water’s last-start second placing to Dobbinair in the $105,000 State Sprint Series Final on May 2 followed what Searle considered an unlucky three-quarters-of-a-length second to Clarance on April 18.

“She’s a super-consistent mare, she probably should have gone close two starts back had the horse inside her not rolled off the rail,” Searle said.

“So, she’s doing really well. Her work was really nice on Tuesday morning and she’s come through both those runs really well.

“It looks a nice race for her.”

Tosen Water, a six-time winner from 34 starts, has been ridden by Teagan Voorham at her past two starts, but will this weekend have the services of last season’s premier jockey Rochelle Milnes with Voorham to partner stablemate Sir Kingsford in the Listed Andrew Ramsden at Flemington.

Milnes and Tosen Water drew barrier eight in the field of 14 and Searle would not be disappointed if the rain predicted for Adelaide this weekend arrived before racetime.

“We’re going to get a lot of rain over the weekend apparently here, which will benefit her because she likes a wet track too,” she said.

“Barrier eight is probably a nice gate for her and Rochelle’s on her. Rochelle knows her well, she’s won on her and been placed, so fingers crossed she can keep her consistent formΒ up.”

Tosen Water is a $7 chance in betting on Saturday’s race with the market headed by last-start Morphettville winner Bouncing Beyond.
