Two of South Australia’s standout mares, Kuroyanagi and See You In Heaven, each commanded $1 million at Tuesday’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast during a vibrant flurry of bidding.
Both were late additions to the sale’s supplementary catalogue, listed as high-potential breeding and racing options after underwhelming autumn campaigns.
Kuroyanagi, a daughter of Written Tycoon who proved her class with a placing in the prestigious Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, was purchased by respected bloodstock agent Dean Hawthorne. He suggested the mare could visit rising New Zealand stallion Super Seth this breeding season.
See You In Heaven also boasted top-tier juvenile credentials, having captured the Group 3 Ottawa Stakes, Breeders Stakes, and Listed Dequetteville Stakes for trainers Richard and Chantelle Jolly. She continued to impress as she matured, landing the Group 2 Sandown Guineas at three and adding successive wins in the Group 3 Behemoth Stakes at four and five.
Yulong secured the mare, with Sam Fairgray confirming post-sale that her racing days may not yet be over.
“We’ll take her home and have a think about it,” Fairgray said. “It’s a possibility, we may give her a run in the spring.”
“She was a very consistent mare, she won a Group 3 at her first start and trained on at three and four. She’s a nice mare for us to have, a good, running mare.”
