With the Caulfield Cup, won by the Gai Waterhouse-trained Descarado, now out of the way, the focus turns to Australia’s two greatest races – the weight for age championship of Australasia, the Tattersalls Cox Plate, and the race that stops the nation, the Emirates Melbourne Cup.
We will work tirelessly over the next two weeks to give you all the information you need about these two great races.
The 2010 Cox Plate is shaping up as one of the greatest in recent memory, with emerging champions So You Think and More Joyous on a collision course.
Add AJC Derby winner Shoot Out (whose Derby win was well and truly franked with the Derby placegetters running first and third in the Caulfield Cup), New Zealand’s best galloper Wall Street, Macau champion Luen Yat Forever,last year’s favourite Whobegotyou, evergreen weight for age star Zipping, the Epsom Handicap quinella in Captain Sonador and Trusting and you get a sense of the calibre of this year’s Cox Plate.
We will be trackside to soak up the atmosphere of a great Cox Plate.
Also on the Cox Plate card is an amazing Moir Stakes, likely to feature a clash of the sprinting titans.
Black Caviar, Hay List, Hot Danish and Melito are four horses who have been touted as Moir Stakes contenders.
A week and a half later, Australia and New Zealand will stop to watch one of the biggest runnings of the Melbourne Cup to date.
The Victoria Racing Club has worked tirelessly to commemorate the 150th running of the great race, and the party is sure to be second to none.
