So You Are has received a 0.5kg penalty for the Colin Stephen Quality victory, improving the Bjorn Baker-trained stayer’s position in the order of entry for the Melbourne Cup.
Racing Victoria Head of Handicapping David Hegan confirmed the five-year-old son of So You Think will rise from 52kg to 52.5kg for the 3200m feature, moving three places to 49th in the order of entry.
So You Are has not received a penalty for the Caulfield Cup and remains on the 51kg minimum.
However, his rating relative to the weight-for-age benchmark has improved following Saturday’s Group 3 success at Rosehill, lifting him three positions from 37th to 34th in the Caulfield Cup order of entry.
“So You Are carried 58.5kg to his Group 3 win on Saturday which was considered when allocating his 0.5kg penalty in the Lexus Melbourne Cup,” said David Hegan.
“He is not penalised in the Caulfield Cup where he carries 51kg, however does progress 0.5kg vs the weight for age benchmark from a true weight of 50.5kg to 51kg. Therefore, he is now 8kg below the weight for age benchmark which takes him from 37th to 34th in the order of entry.”
Meanwhile, Sunday’s Group 3 JRA Cup (2000m) winner Royal Supremacy has escaped a penalty for both Cups.
The Group 1 winner remains on 54.5kg for the Caulfield Cup and 56kg for the Melbourne Cup, with Racing Victoria determining his performance did not warrant a reassessment given his existing weight was based on exposed form.
First acceptances for the Melbourne Cup close at noon on Tuesday, September 29, while second acceptances for the Caulfield Cup close at noon on Tuesday, October 6.
