Time at the beach has enabled Sirileo Miss to recover from a leg knock in time to run at Flemington

Sirileo Miss has recovered from a knock to a leg that forced her out of a Group 1 race and the mare is right to take her place in a lesser contest at Flemington.

The Symon Wilde-trained mare was the victim of some bad weather in Warrnambool last week that resulted in her scratching from the Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) at Flemington last Saturday.

Instead, Sirileo Miss will run in the $250,000 Inglis Bracelet (1600m) on Thursday.

Wilde explained Sirileo Miss spends most of her time in a paddock and took fright in the wild storms that lashed Victoria last Thursday night.

“There was lightning, thunder, pelting run and it was as bad as I’ve seen for a while,” Wilde said.

“She’s a touchy thing, so we leave her out there in a paddock, that’s where she’s happy.

“It’s a great advantage, but the disadvantage is in those situations, but you can’t control the weather.”

Wilde said Sirileo Miss gave the inside of a hock a knock which he described as an impact injury.

He said time at the beach had got the mare over the problem which unfortunately cost her a chance at running for a $1 million bonus in the Empire Rose Stakes.

Sirileo Miss was in line for the bonus courtesy of her victory in the Group 3 Ladies’ Day Vase (1600m) at Caulfield on October 13.

“I don’t know if she would have won,” Wilde said.

“She was $26 the other day and she’s favourite in this race so it might end up being a blessing in disguise, I don’t know.

“She’s definitely a better winning chance in this race than she was in the other way.

“We’ve had her at the beach, and she’s recovered really well.

“It was only an impact injury and she got passed on Tuesday, so she’s right to run.”
