Sir Delius and Vauban will be separated on their journeys to the Melbourne Cup, with Sir Delius now on a Cox Plate path.
Co-trainer Gai Waterhouse confirmed the decision after Sir Delius was narrowly beaten in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
“Sir Delius will come to Melbourne over the next few days and go to the Naturalism (at Caulfield on September 20) for his next start,” Waterhouse told racing.com.
“He will go to the Cox Plate so we can keep them apart and also it would possibly suit Sir Delius better.”
The stayer has firmed into $8 favouritism for the Melbourne Cup after his eye-catching run, while Vauban remains on a Caulfield Cup path.
“Vauban, everyone talks about Sir Delius โ and for good reason โ but hardly anyone seems to be talking about Vauban and he was literally on his hammer,” Waterhouse said.
Vauban will stay in Sydney for the Kingston Town Stakes before heading south for the Caulfield Cup, where he is rated a $15 chance.
