Sincero toyed with his rivals first-up at Gosford and trainer Stephen Farley can’t wait to see what the gelding can do when he gets back onto a good track in Saturday’s Inglis Guineas at Scone.
The three-year-old rose to prominence with four straight wins during summer and returned in dominant fashion with a five-length victory in the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) on a heavy track last month.
He is the $1.55 favourite to make it six wins in a row when he contests the $250,000 Scone feature over 1600 metres.
“It will be good to get him on a dry track and see what he can do,” Farley said.
“It was nice to see him get through the wet at Gosford but his six wins before that were all class records. So we know he can run along.”
Farley was forced to tinker with Sincero’s preparation when the Gosford Guineas was washed out on April 17 and moved to April 25.
That resulted in Farley bypassing a scheduled second-up run in the Listed Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) on April 30, with a 1200m Randwick barrier trial last Friday substituted in its place.
Farley doesn’t see the change in preparation affecting Sincero’s performance on Saturday.
“He’s as forward as he can be for the mile,” Farley said.
“It’s probably not ideal going from 1200 metres up to the mile, hence the reason why we used the trial in between as like a 1400 metre run.
“He’s doing everything well and I am as happy as I can be with him.”
The Guineas is one of the feature races at the Scone Race Club’s inaugural Saturday meeting which also includes the running of the Listed Dark Jewel (1400m) for fillies and mares.
Sincero will have eight rivals on Saturday and Farley expects the Scone layout to really suit the favourite.
“He’s a nice big horse who takes a big stride and the open spaces at Scone should suit him,” the trainer said.
“He’s the type of horse that can be anywhere in the run.
“In the trial the other day when they walked he led the trial.
“From barrier three Chris (O’Brien) will be able to have him wherever he wants him depending on the speed of the race.”
Sincero is the reigning favourite for the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm on June 11 with weights to be released on Monday.
