Last years Melbourne Cup winner Shocking will be looking to win back to back cups in tomorrow’s 2010 Melbourne Cup, his run in the Mackinnon Stakes i felt was overlooked after making good ground late to run 6th in what was a slowly run race that suited horses on speed.
Shocking has been a noticeable drifter in tomorrows Melbourne Cup although i think he has been overlooked due to So You Think’s impressive win, looking at the race it was slowly run meaning it suited those runners on speed and the track conditions looked to also favour those on speed. Shocking settled at the back of the field and was asked to go around the 400m and made steady ground out wide, Michael Rodd never looked to ask too much of the 5YO son of Street Cry which makes me think the run was simply a trial heading into his grand final race.
It looks like people are forgetting that he ran the 2nd fastest final 600m in the race behind So You Think and we know he will get the 3200m.
With the suppport for Maluckyday Shocking has eased to a very reasonable price of $12 for the win and $3.60 the place, looking at his preparation over spring it is very hard to see him running at the rear of the field and at his current each way value looks to be one of the best bets in the race.
Not including his run in the Mackinnon Stakes his record at Flemington is 4 wins and a 2nd from 5 starts.
