Seaburgh Lindsay Park made a last minute decision to run Seaburge in the Cox Plate

A last-minute decision to run Boom Time landed Lindsay Park the spoils in the Caulfield Cup and they’re hoping for a similar story at Moonee Valley.

This time they have Seaburge running in Saturday’s Cox Plate and like Boom Time he’s one of the outsiders in the Group One contest.

Boom Time’s win provided senior co-trainer David Hayes an early birthday present and now the Lindsay Park team, including Hayes’ son Ben and nephew Tom Dabernig, are hoping Seaburge can keep the dream going.

Ben Hayes says the stable is confident Seaburge can run top four while prize money is paid down to eighth place in the nine horse field.

Hayes explained the stable had made some changes to Seaburge’s training after the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington last month.

It resulted in a better performance in the Toorak Handicap at Caulfield at the four-year-old’s latest start.

Hayes also pointed out Seaburge was placed in the Caulfield Guineas and at weight-for-age in the Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington last year.

“In the Makybe Diva he had an internal bleed so we’ve been training him differently now,” Hayes said.

“We’ve got him out in a paddock and he’s come good in the coat.

“We think we’ve found the trick to him and we won’t be surprised if he runs a big race.”

Hayes said stepping up to 2040m will suit Seaburge on Saturday after he found the opposition too sharp over 1600m at Caulfield.

“We think 2000 (metres) is what he’s looking for so we thought it was worth having a throw at the stumps,” Hayes said.

“We’ve won the race six times and been placed in it multiple times.

“You never know what can happen in racing.”
