William Reid Stakes winner Schwarz continued his preparations for the Doomben 10,000 with a solid barrier trial victory in Sydney last week.
The John O’Shea and Tom Charlton-trained four-year-old, who won the G1 William Reid (1200m) at The Valley on March 22, led most of the way in Thursday’s 822m trial under jockey James McDonald. He won the heat by just over a length.
“It was a nice trial. He was happy and relaxed,” said Charlton.
With Schwarz fit and well, the trial helped keep him ticking over ahead of the Doomben 10,000 on May 17.
The win in the William Reid marked his sixth career victory from 12 starts, which includes G2 wins in the Australia Stakes and Missile Stakes this season.
Charlton is hopeful that Schwarz can add another Group 1 win to his record. “If he could get another one, that would be fantastic,” he said.
