The cobalt inquiry involving trainer Sam Kavanagh will enter its second day in Sydney.
On Monday, vet Dr Adam Matthews denied he was the facilitator of race day treatment for the Kavanagh-trained Midsummer Sun who recorded high levels of cobalt and caffeine in a post-race test after he won the Gosford Cup in January.
Matthews is a former employee of the Flemington Equine Clinic.
Dr Tom Brennan, a partner in the clinic, has been charged in both NSW and Victoria with supplying a substance labelled Vitamin Complex which contained 175 times the amount of cobalt normally found in supplements.
Racing NSW stewards rejected an argument by counsel for Brennan that cobalt should not be considered a prohibited substance because studies of its EPO effects were inconclusive.
Melbourne trainers Peter Moody, Lee and Shannon Hope, Danny O’Brien and Mark Kavanagh, the father of Sam, have all been charged over elevated levels in horses.
They have been told their trainers’ percentages of any prize money won in major races during the spring carnival will be frozen.
The Sydney inquiry continues on Tuesday.
