Racing Victoria stewards have levied charges against trainers from five Victorian stables following their probe into positive swabs for banned substances Formestane and 4-Hydroxytestosterone.
The trainers facing charges include Smiley Chan (two charges), Mark and Levi Kavanagh (two charges), Julius Sandhu (three charges), Symon Wilde (two charges), and Ash and Amy Yargi (three charges).
These charges stem from the presence of Formestane, a breast cancer treatment, and X-Hydroxytestosterone, an anabolic steroid, in post-race urine samples collected from horses in the first half of 2023.
The cases are scheduled to be heard before the Victorian Racing Tribunal at a later date.
The trainers suggested contamination as the likely cause when Racing Victoria initiated its investigation last September.
Notably, the charges against Chan, the Kavanaghs, Sandhu, Wilde, and the Yargis pertain to specific race events where the positive tests occurred.
