The Listed Tattersall’s Mile is the target champion trainer Tony Gollan has set for the five-year-old gelding Rising Pacific and he rates the son of Preferment as one of the stable’s best winning chances at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Rising Pacific is already an eight-time winner and has saluted in three of his last four starts … and four of his last six … results which underline his prowess and indicate his ability to successfully adapt to different distance tests with those latest four wins coming over 1400m, 1600m (twice) and 1835m.
All eight of Rising Pacific’s wins have come on a good racing surface and Gollan stressed the importance of that factor.
“The important point is we really need good ground for him,” offered Gollan.
“I was adamant this preparation I didn’t want to run him over anything other than good ground,” said Gollan. “That is why his preparation has been so good.
“We’ve seen that in previous preps where I allowed him to run on ground that he is not superior on. This time I said I don’t care how long between runs … we wait … we just have to wait for the right ground, and I’m confident I can train him in a way to keep him fit enough for that.
“His last run was back over 1500m against some sharper horses, and he was very good. He was held up at a vital time when he needed to get rolling.
“Getting out to the mile, on what you would imagine, with this weather, will be good ground … fast ground … on Saturday, he gets the right ground, the right barrier (barrier number four) and the right race.
“This is definitely the right race for him. I think he is one of my better chances on the card … at a nice price.”
Andrew Mallyon, who has ridden Rising Pacific in his last four starts (for three wins) retains the ride.
