Tulloch Lodge youngster Revengeance has booked his place in the world’s richest two-year-old feature after capitalising on his race experience to score a classy win in the $1 million Golden Gift at Rosehill.
The first prizemoney purse of $580,000 guarantees his qualification for next year’s Golden Slipper (1200m) and co-trainer Adrian Bott has confirmed that will be the colt’s goal.
“We will work back from the Slipper,” Bott said.
“As to what that path that is, whether it’s try to tackle the Blue Diamond, whether it’s the Inglis Millennium race for him, chasing the dollars. We’ve got a few different lead-up options.
“Whether we go the traditional path, we’ll see what pans out and what we think is going to be the best way to get him to the Slipper.
“Obviously, he’s got the money now (to get into the field).”
Revengeance arrived at Saturday’s Golden Gift (1100m) boasting a similar profile to last year’s winner North England, also prepared by Bott and training partner Gai Waterhouse.
Both colts finished third in the Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at their respective debuts before taking out the spring feature, while Tulloch Lodge also claimed it in 2023 with Shangri La Express.
Bott said race experience was key.
“It counts for so much. He was unlucky in the Breeders’ Plate to an extent,” he said.
“He consolidated on things today and did an excellent job.”
Revengeance ($2.60 fav) trailed the speed and let down nicely when produced by Josh Parr in the straight to score by a length over Spicy Miss ($15) with the winner’s stablemate Plagiarism ($18) holding third, another 1-1/4 lengths away.
Parr said the son of Hellbent was learning with each run and would have no issue extending to the 1200m of the Golden Slipper.
“He’s improved each time I’ve sat on him,” Parr said.
“His action seems to be ironing out. You can see it in his first trial, he looked like a kangaroo coming down the straight.
“Today, he flattened out really well. Can’t wait to see him in March.”
