The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr Cranbourne stable would like to see rain, and plenty of it, ahead of the Flemington meeting.
The stable has Moby Dick and La Fracas entered in the benchmark 84 handicap down the straight 1200m course on Saturday.
Price has described La Fracas as one of the best ‘wet trackers’ he has had in his stable for several years, but the drying conditions of Flemington after a rain soaking may count against the galloper who will be aiming for three straight wins on Saturday.
La Fracas has been successful, on heavy tracks, at Mornington and Sandown in his past two starts.
He was also successful on a heavy track at Kilmore last November and won his maiden on soft ground at Pakenham in May last year.
“He’s the best wet tracker I’ve had for a long time and he’s a progressive horse,” Price said.
“But the problem is, for a wet tracker like him, is Saturday’s race is at Flemington.
“The only time you get a heavy track is when it rains during the day, so we’ll see how it plays out.”
Up to 7mm of rain is forecast for Flemington on Thursday with some showers on Saturday.
Stablemate Moby Dick is looking to get back into winning form having last tasted success at Flemington in September last year.
Price said it was on the recommendation of apprentice Logan Bates that Saturday’s race down the straight is being considered.
Bates rode Moby Dick into third place at Caulfield on June 28.
“He’s met his mark, but he was better the other day and when the jockey came in last time, he said to run him down the straight,” Price said.
“He ran brave at Caulfield, but he never looked like he was going to win.
“He’s developed into a four-year-old that hasn’t grown a lot, and he’s also had tie forward surgery.
“I’m not seeing where I can improve him because he’s up at that mark, but hopefully we can get another win out of him.”
