An injury suffered in the opening two-year-old race of the season prevented Raging Force from playing a significant role during his juvenile year, but he is on his way to making up for lost time.
The youngster was a standout winner at Randwick’s Kensington track meeting on Wednesday, trouncing his opposition by four lengths in The Autumn Sun @ Arrowfield Handicap (1100m) to take his record to two victories from as many starts this campaign.
His only other appearance came in the Breeders’ Plate (1000m) last spring when he was backed from $7 into $4.40 but suffered an issue in the run.
“He had an injury that happened in the race and he was out for quite an extended time,” trainer Peter Snowden said.
“He is over that now and he has come back a brand new model of himself.
“He is one to watch out for, for sure.”
Raging Force is a son of Cosmic Force, who Snowden trained to win the 2019 Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m).
While Raging Force has a long way to go to emulate his sire, Snowden regards him as a progressive horse capable of measuring up to better grade.
“He was like his dad there the last 100 metres,” he said.
“I will probably run him in a Saturday race and then give him a freshen up because the carnival comes around quickly.
“He is a talented horse who has got good upside.”
Raging Force ($2 fav) was able to find the front for Tommy Berry and lengthened stride impressively in the straight to surge clear and score by four lengths over Bryant ($8.50) with Just Legendary ($4.60) another 4-1/2 lengths away third.
Berry said the youngster relaxed well enough in the lead to suggest he could extend to longer sprints, but added his speed was one of his assets.
“He is a Cosmic Force, so he is bred to be fast,” Berry said.
“Cosmic Force is doing a great job at stud. He is producing really precocious, fast types and this is another one, so full credit to Newgate and the team.”
