Here is what is making news in racing this Monday morning.
- The Golden Slipper field has become clearer, but the picture has become murkier following the defeats of Sepoy and Satin Shoes.
- Running Tall and Masthead are confirmed Slipper runners
- Leon Corstens is considering starting last Saturday’s debutant winner Mosheen in the Golden Slipper at her second start, because of attrition above her
- Most jockeys and trainers still believe Sepoy is the one to beat in the Slipper
- Peter Snowden is still hoping to have more than one runner in the Slipper, with Helmet and Aerobatics to run this Saturday
- Straight Gold is out of the Slipper.
- The Australian Turf Club is working to lure both Black Caviar and More Joyous to the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) on April 23.
- This Saturday’s Rosehill Guineas is the feature, and the prospect of a full field looks possible.
- Peter Moody will only be represented by Anacheeva in the Rosehill Guineas, with Eclair Surprise going for a spell. Glyn Schofield will take the ride, with Luke Nolen in Adelaide.
- Glen Boss, who is in tremendous form, has decided to ride Absolutelyawesome over Australian Guineas winner Shamrocker.
- There will be two Kiwis represented – NZ Derby winner Jimmy Choux and the promising but enigmatic He’s Remarkable.
- David Payne will be represented by two runners – Praecido (Corey Brown booked to ride) and Masquerader (Hugh Bowman).
- Darley will have two runners – Retrieve and Skilled
- A sad day on Friday with the deaths of Okay Oky and Lady Avacan.
- The Hong Kong Derby (2000m) was won by Ambitious Dragon last night.
- The international racing focus turns to Dubai for this weekend’s Dubai World Cup meeting. It is the first time in some years that no Australian-trained horses will run.
- Kudakulari is out of the AJC Derby. He will run in the Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) on the same day as the Derby, with the Queensland Derby looking a possibility.
- Phar Lap Stakes winner Blackie will be one of two Mick Kent-trained horses in the Tulloch Stakes, with the trainer also likely to run Domesky.
- VRC Oaks winner Brazilian Pulse will run in Saturday’s Ajax Stakes (1500m)
- The Keith Nolan Classic, washed out yesterday, will be added to Saturday’s Rosehill card, albeit over a different distance – either 1500m or 1800m
- There is Group 1 racing in Adelaide this Saturday, with the Group 1 Sportingbet Classic (formerly the Robert Sangster Stakes) and the Group 1 Australasian Oaks
- Peter Moody will be represented in both, with Avenue and Panipique to run in the Sangster and unbeaten filly Lights of Heaven to run in the Oaks. Impressive Kewney Stakes winner Do Ra Mi will be saved for the Storm Queen Stakes at Rosehill a week later. Both Lights of Heaven and Do Ra Mi are likely to run in the AJC Oaks.
- Darley will be represented by Beaded in the Sangster, while Mick Price will run Dubleanny
- Saturday winner She’s Gifted will either back up in the Australasian Oaks or head to Sydney for the Storm Queen Stakes
- Keep The Peace is very likely to go home to NZ after a disappointing run in the Ranvet on Saturday
- More Strawberries will be spelled after finishing a disappointing last in the Coolmore Classic
