Jimmy Orman, Queensland’s leading jockey, will not be riding in Brisbane on Melbourne Cup day.
Instead, Orman will make his second trip to Sydney in seventeen days to once again ride the David McColm trained Far Too Easy, who he partnered to a runner-up finish in the $2 million The Kosciuszko on October 15.
At least that was the original motivation for Orman heading south … but he has also subsequently picked up a ride in another $2 million race on Saturday with his booking for the Chris Waller trained Aleas in the Big Dance.
‘My manager was phoning around trying to get other rides once I was going down there and that’s how I got the ride on Aleas,” explained Orman.
“It’s got a chance. Big field … good draw … trained by the best trainer in Australia. Yeah, it’s exciting.
‘I was going down to Far Too easy anyway,” continued Orman.
“I just want to stick with him wherever he goes. I think he is a good horse … and Magic Millions day could provide a good race for him.
“I haven’t ridden down there too often, but the more you ride in that sort of company the better you get … so, again, I’m really looking forward to it.
“I think I have been getting better every year but you have got to keep getting better.”
Far Too Easy is the ruling $3 favourite in race 8 on the card, a Country Open over 1300m.
Aleas is a $21 chance in The Big Dance (race 5).
