Geelong Cup winner Qewy has received a .5kg penalty for his win in Wednesday’s Geelong Cup.
The Godolphin stayer led all of the way beating off International rival Grey Lion who looked to have his measure on numerous occasions in the straight.
The .5kg penalty will see Qewy carry 50.5kg with an additional 1kg to be added when Preferment is removed from the the 2016 Melbourne Cup order which will sit him on the 31st line of order of entry.
“Qewy was a narrow winner of the Geelong Cup over fellow import Grey Lion in what was a truly run race,” Carpenter said.
“Qewy carried 1kg less than Grey Lion at Geelong, and is now handicapped to carry 0.5kg less than that horse in the Emirates Melbourne Cup.”
Our calculations have him 24th with the current casualties in the race although the Lexus Stakes winner will also get a spot.
