Ciaron Maher is hopeful that promising filly Cherish Me can emulate the success of her stablemates when she resumes at Caulfield on Saturday following a solid two-year-old campaign.
Cherish Me lines up in the opening event over 1200 metres, aiming to mirror the metro-level victories of fellow Maher-trained juvenile fillies Signature Scent and Exit, who recently won at Caulfield and Sandown respectively.
With both fillies now being aimed towards the Group 1 Thousand Guineas in October, Maher is weighing up a similar path for Cherish Me, who will be partnered by Craig Williams this weekend as she kicks off her second campaign.
“We had a high opinion of her from the first time she entered the stable. She’s got a lot of ability. She has a beautiful action and she’ll keep furnishing,” Maher said.
Cherish Me impressed on debut with victory in the Geelong Diamond in January before finishing 10th in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, a run that didn’t diminish Maher’s belief in her long-term potential.
“She did really well in the break. I think she’s still getting there. The Thousand Guineas being brought forward could work for her,” Maher added.
The Thousand Guineas has returned to Caulfield Cup Day and will be run this year on October 18, shifting back from its previous November slot to align with a refreshed spring racing calendar.
