Ciaron Maher has hinted that it’s “possible” Pride Of Jenni could come out of retirement. Speculation has been circulating in racing circles for weeks, with the mare’s status on Racing Australia listed as “spelling” rather than “retired,” leaving the door open for a potential return.
Owner Tony Ottobre has remained tight-lipped about Pride Of Jenni’s racing future, choosing not to comment on the matter. However, Maher revealed on Friday that the idea of her returning to the track is “exciting.”
“Possibly. I’ll have a yarn to Tony and see what he wants to do. Possibly could come back. It’s very exciting,” Maher told RSN 927. “We will take it one step at a time. She’s had a decent enough break. We will see how we go. I wouldn’t make any predictions just yet.”
Pride Of Jenni was retired in the spring after suffering a bleed in the G1 Champions Mile at Flemington in November. She finished last in the Champions Mile, and Racing Victoria stewards confirmed she had been banned for three months after bleeding from both nostrils.
Throughout her career, the seven-year-old Pride Of Jenni has raced 35 times and earned more than $10 million in prizemoney, cementing her status as one of the sport’s standout performers.
