We saw a late season potential star 2YO emerge in Sydney at Wyong on Tuesday.
His name is PANDEMIC and not surprisingly, he is a Godolphin baby. That’s not surprising because Godolphin pretty much own all the best babies this year from Kiamichi to Microphone to Lyre to Tenley et al.
But this one snuck in under our guards.
Sure, he started a well backed $2.00 fav after $2.70 was bet early, but most of missed the lineage he possesses.
He was born to be king. He is by Sepoy from a super mare called Cataclysm who is the mother of former Champion 2YO, Earthquake.
Another sibling is stakes winner Palomares.
Earthquake, as we remember, won the Gr 1 Blue Diamond and was runner-up in the Gr 1 Golden Slipper.
This half-brother of hers, Pandemic, has missed all the big 2YO races so he had to content himself with a runaway 2YO Mdn win on debut over 1000m yesterday.
But it was impressive. He was ridden by Tommy Berry who had him parked well off the pace early in the 1000m dash, only to swing him to the outside in the straight.
And boy did Berry have to hang on tight as the gelding took off, racing a little greenly, when asked to accelerate.
He ran time and looks to get much further too.
As for big sister Earthquake, she is expected to have a foal by Lonhro later this year.
She has 2 named babies on the ground at present: an unraced 2YO named Seismics (Lonhro) and a yearling colt called Namazu (Medaglia D’oro).
