Ethan Brown’s final surgery on Monday afternoon was reportedly successful, and the surgeons involved are said to be satisfied with the outcome. Now, the focus can shift to the 23-year-old’s recovery following his recent fall in the Australian Guineas.
On Tuesday morning, Brown was able to communicate with his family after the sedation was reduced overnight. The immediate concerns were the lacerated liver and kidney issues, and attention can now turn to any secondary injuries. Matthew Hyland, the boss of the Victorian Jockey’s Association, has suggested that Brown may need approximately four months to fully recover.
The popular G1 winning rider underwent surgery on Saturday evening after his fall in the Australian Guineas. He has been listed as stable in the ICU at the Royal Melbourne hospital and will be moved to a ward in the coming days.
Brown’s partner Celine Gaudray and his mother have been by his side since the accident. Gaudray’s manager has confirmed that the apprentice will return to the saddle for the first time since Saturday on Wednesday at Sandown, where she will have five rides.
