Police have this morning raided Victoria’s leading trainer Darren Weir’s Ballarat and Warrnambool stables.
Police from Victoria’s sports integrity this morning swooped on both of Weir’s stables following an investigation that has been ongoing for months.
Officers are currently at his property at Miners Rest, local paper the Ballarat Courier reports, and more are reportedly at his Warrnambool stables.
“There is a lot of both uniform and plain clothes police around the area at the moment,” Ballarat Courier journalist Greg Gliddon told Melbourne radio station 3AW shortly before 8am.
“At this stage we don’t have a lot of detail about what’s going on but no doubt things will develop through the day.
“The majority appear to be federal police, but there are uniform officers here as well, so yeah there’s something definitely going on here at the stables.”
Weir trained 491 winners last season with combined earnings of more than $31 million.
As the investigation is ongoing no further information has been provided.
More to come…
