David Pfieffer is bullish about the first-up chances of The Party Girl

David Pfieffer is bullish about the first-up chances of The Party Girl at Kembla Grange and admits he is miffed at the price she has been posted with bookmakers.

The mare, who ended her first preparation for Pfieffer with a Saturday-class win, returns in the Pages Event Hire Handicap (1200m) on Saturday’s stand-alone program at the provincial track.

Pfieffer concedes she faces a couple of talented rivals in favourite Lucicello and progressive pair Kylease and Misteed.

But after touching as much as $34 with TAB Fixed Odds, The Party Girl was a $23 chance on Friday and Pfieffer believed that was still over the odds.

“She has come in in great order and she’s ready to continue where she left off last preparation,” Pfieffer said.

“I was a little bit shocked when she opened up the price she did to tell you the truth.

“Personally, I thought she was an 8 or 10-1 shot.

“She’s pretty forward and I think there is enough speed in the race for her to be competitive.”

The Party Girl is on trial for the Magic Millions carnival and will be one of four Kembla runners for Pfiefffer.

He also saddles up the in-form Broken Arrows and Ghostly in the Traffic Logistics Handicap (1000m) while ex-Godolphin gelding Sanctioned contests the Polytrack Handicap (1200m).

Pfieffer is still learning about Sanctioned and took an important lesson from his first-up run when he raced inside horses and did not appreciate it, finishing sixth to Stephan at Rosehill.

“He’s a horse that loves a bit of room and a bit of space,” Pfieffer said.

“I’m really happy with the way he’s working, I was really happy with his run the other day and I think he’s a good place chance.”

A multiple stakes placegetter as a three-year-old, Sanctioned has won just one of his 17 starts but significantly that victory came at his second run from a spell.
