Peter V’Landys weighs up future in racing

Peter V’landys is contemplating stepping down from one of his two high-profile positions, either as chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission or CEO of Racing NSW.

Having played a pivotal role in expanding rugby league and revolutionizing the NSW racing industry, V’landys suggested he has “nothing left to prove.”

His leadership has been instrumental in securing financial stability for both sports and driving key innovations.

While he remains committed to his duties for now, speculation is growing about which role he may relinquish, with veteran sports journalist Phil “Buzz” Rothfield saying on the ‘Off The Record’ Podcast that he believes the role of both jobs is too much for V’Landys and that he is contemplating giving one way.

“I think he’s now – and I’ve made a lot of phone calls – on the verge of deciding between racing and rugby league,” he said.

“At his age with a young family, I think the jobs have become too stressful for him to manage and have some sort of decent life with it.”

“Racing has become a real snake pit – the $5 billion sale of Rosehill, the Mark Latham pile-on and the parliamentary inquiry where he said some disgusting things about Peter V’landys.”

“He’s not talking to Gai Waterhouse and the Chris Waller relationship has been a little bit strained. I’m not sure that he will stay in racing.”
