Star juvenile Paradoxium is now in some doubt for next month’s $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic after being scratched from Saturday’s BJ McLachlan Stakes at Eagle Farm.
The Bjorn Baker-trained colt was withdrawn after suffering a bout of travel sickness, with the stable confirming he required treatment following his trip north.
Baker told Racenet on Wednesday morning that while Paradoxium remains entered for the Gold Coast feature on January 17, no firm call has been made on whether he will take his place.
“He’s got travel sickness so he’s out for Saturday and he’s had to be treated,” Baker said. “We’ll just monitor how he goes in the next day or two and then go from there.”
When asked if the race favourite was now in danger of missing the Magic Millions, Baker stressed the situation remained fluid.
“It’s one step at a time. He’s out for Saturday, and we just don’t know,” he said. “Let’s stick to the facts: he’s got a temperature, he’s flat, he’s been treated and he’s out for Saturday.
“At this stage he’s still in the Magic Millions, but we will assess the situation on a daily, if not hourly, basis.”
Paradoxium is the current $3.50 favourite for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m), narrowly ahead of stablemate Warwoven at $4.50.
