Paradise Storm has been withdrawn from the Sydney Cup after sustaining a tendon injury in a significant blow to his autumn campaign.
Trainer Henry Dwyer confirmed the issue on Thursday, revealing the Auckland Cup winner will now undergo rehabilitation and face an extended period on the sidelines.
“He’s just got a little tendon (injury) there, and I suppose little tendons are the same as big tendons … so we won’t be seeing him on the track for a while, unfortunately,” Dwyer said.
The imported five-year-old had been considered one of the leading chances for the 3200m staying feature, following his victory in the Auckland Cup and a strong third placing in the Roy Higgins at Flemington.
“I fully expected him to go up there and be pretty hard to beat,” Dwyer said.
Despite the setback, Dwyer is optimistic the stayer will make a return, noting the lightly raced galloper still has significant upside and could be aimed at major two-mile races again next season.
