Metropolitan Handicap favourite Lamasery has been penalised one kilogram for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups for his win in Saturday’s Colin Stephen Quality.
The five-year-old now has 51kg in both Cups and has moved to equal 40th in the elimination order for the Caulfield Cup.
He has risen from 98th to 60th in the Melbourne Cup order after passing the first ballot clause with Saturday’s 2400m victory.
“Lamasery’s last two performances have been very good and following on from his win in the Kingston Town Stakes, he then carried top weight of 57kg and fought on strongly to win the Colin Stephen at his first run beyond 2000 metres,” Victoria’s chief handicapper Greg Carpenter said.
The David Vandyke-trained gelding is the $5 favourite to win Saturday’s Group One Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick.
