The $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic has been blown wide open following the race-morning scratching of hot favourite Warwoven.
Stewards ordered the unbeaten colt as well as stablemate Masvingo to undergo a third veterinary examination in less than 24 hours after they were found to be lame on Friday.
However, the condition failed to improve sufficiently on Saturday morning for Warwoven and Masvingo to take their place in the field, forcing trainer Bjorn Baker to withdraw the highly fancied runner and stablemat and leaving futures punters disappointed.
The decision came after two previous veterinary checks on Friday, with the Baker stable hoping the colt would be cleared to start in the Gold Coast feature.
βBjorn Baker was disappointed, but understands the process and was appreciative of being afforded this morning’s vet check after yesterday’s two vet checks,β Queensland chief steward Josh Adams said.
Warwoven was the $1.90 favourite with online betting sites before coming out of the field.
