Connections of Champion mare Winx have opted to play things safe and skip this years breading season after she lost her first foal in October.
A person close to the mare who does not wish to be named told racing.com she is to be given plenty of time to recover after the passing of her first foal a filly by stallion I Am Invincible.
“The boys at the farm said she seemed aware that something wasn’t right,” according to the source told Racing.com.
“There’s no rush, no timeline or anything with her and we owe her as much time to get over the ordeal.”
That additional recovery time that connections will give Winx before being served again means she would not birth a foal until at least Spring 2022 if all was to go to plan.
“She’s looked after like a member of the family,” said the source.
“She’s in a nice grassy paddock and receives everything that is required and has plenty of room to move around and has some good friends to be with and she’s doing what horses love to do.”
