Persistent muscle troubles continue to plague star racehorse Giga Kick, as revealed by his connections. The four-year-old is set to undergo scintigraphy scans in the coming weeks to assess the ongoing issue.
The troublesome injury, located deep in the gluteal muscle, originated from the McEwen Stakes at Moonee Valley during last years spring. Unfortunately, the healing process has taken longer than initially expected, casting doubts on Giga Kick’s participation in the upcoming Autumn carnival.
Managing owner Rod Douglas disclosed, “He goes for scintigraphy at the start of March, and then we’ll know where he’s at, whether he comes back into work or needs to have a bit longer off. He’s had one scan, and it wasn’t 100 per cent, so we just had a bit longer. We’ll know in the first week of March.”
Despite the frustration of having a premier horse sidelined, Douglas emphasised the importance of patience. Both he and the team, including trainer Clayton Douglas, remain optimistic about Giga Kick’s overall condition, aside from the setback.
“Horse looks good, he’s a lot more mature and stronger, so it’s just a matter of being patient and waiting for it to heal,” Douglas stated. “He’s only a four-year-old, so you’ve just got to be patient. In the old days, you wouldn’t have known this and probably continued on and done damage. With all the technology now, you’ve just got to wait and be patient.”
