New Zealand-bred galloper Sought After could be set for a breakthrough performance when he lines up at Pakenham this Saturday, according to trainer Peter Moody when speaking on SEN’s Giddy Up with Gareth Hall.
The gelding has had three runs for the Moody/Coleman stable this Spring. While he hasn’t blown punters away just yet, he’s shown enough consistency to suggest a win isn’t far away. His best form includes a solid fourth placing behind Damask Rose and Evaporate in a rich Kiwi slot race before arriving in Australia. His most recent run in the $1 million Meteorite at Cranbourne was respectable without setting the world alight.
Moody said he’s still learning about the horse but is happy with how his prep is shaping up.
‘I think I’m still working him out a little bit. He’s run well on each occasion, and he ran well in the $1 million race at Cranbourne (The Meteorite).
The step back to 1200 metres at Pakenham and the advantage of racing on familiar ground should suit Sought After well, Moody added.
‘’We’re back to 1200m on Saturday at home (Pakenham) in the Benchmark 84 but I feel he’s going super. I reckon he’ll run very well’.
There’s been some talk from within that the horse may now be looking for 1400 metres, but Moody isn’t overly concerned given the gap between runs and the positive signs he’s seeing.
“Is he looking for 1400m now? Arguably yes but with the gap between runs and playing at home I think he’s well suited at Pakenham on Saturday and certainly worth following.”
While he hasn’t lit up the ratings yet, Sought After has shown enough to suggest he’s building towards something. With conditions looking to suit the gelding this weekend and the stable confidence, expect a bold showing from the former Kiwi galloper.
