The Black Caviar team of trainer Peter Moody and jockey Luke Nolen were to the fore yet again when Mid Summer Music scored a gutsy win in Saturday’s Group One $1 million Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm.
The six-year-old mare by Oamaru Force bounced back from her ninth to Sea Siren in last month’s Doomben 10,000 to notch a resounding win over local favourite Buffering with Happy Zero third.
Nolen settled Mid Summer Music midfield in the 1400m feature and saved ground along the inside in the run to the line.
Just as Buffering was being hailed the winner in the final 200 metres, Mid Summer Music produced a strong kick which carried her to victory.
It was the mare’s 10th win from 23 starts which have also produced eight placings for prizemoney in excess of $1.2 million.
