Renowned jockey Michael Dee is set to embark on his first racing stint in Hong Kong. This Wednesday evening at Happy Valley, Dee has three races on his agenda.
Esteemed trainer David Hayes has shown swift confidence in Dee, delegating to him his three contenders in the nine-race event.
Dee’s successful partnership with Hayes dates back to his tenure in Victoria, with a notable victory piloting Little Brose in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes earlier this year – a race under Hayes’ sons, Ben and JD.
Among the three rides, Dee’s brightest prospect might be Starry Knight in the second race. The horse, with its advantageous second barrier draw and an uptick in recent performance, looks to be a strong contender.
Dee’s arrival in Hong Kong follows a stellar season where he secured 75 victories at a career-best strike rate of 12.9%. These wins include six at the elite level, with his latest triumph coming just last Saturday at The Goodwood, aboard Royal Merchant.
Currently, Dee is the sole New Zealander in Hong Kong’s jockey lineup, and he holds a license to ride there until July 9.
