On a day where great announcements dominated headlines in sport, one about an Aussie horse trainer should be right up there among them.
* Tom Brady says he will play again, and Twitter goes mad.
* Man filthy because he paid $500,000 for the last touchdown ball TB threw.
* Aussie Eloise Welling runs a PB and a Commonwealth Games qualifier in Japan for the marathon, while King Of Swing wins his 3rd Miracle Mile.
All wonderful headlines but so too is the announcement that young Aussie trainer Michael Costa has won the race for head trainer of ARM in Dubai!
In a Press Release from ARM which went global this morning and congratulated Costa: “We are pleased to announce that Trainer Michael Costa will be the new ARM Racing Dubai trainer taking over Jebel Ali Stables next season.
“Good Luck Michael and we can’t wait to have you over for next season.”
ARM Racing for those who don’t know, is the official body that runs the racing stables for His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s horses at Jebel Ali Stables in Dubai.
Costa will transition slowly to the new role. He will relocate all his current horses and staff into new stables and this may take a few months.
The most famous horse to race in Sheikh Ahmed’s colours is the multiple Gr 1 winner ADDEYBB (Ire) (Pivotal – Bush Cat), who won majority gongs in both hemispheres including the Queen Elizabeth Stakes in Australia.
Said the excited young Aussie trainer, “I was absolutely blown away by the facility, the horses and the people.
“The opportunity that was presented was far bigger than I could have ever anticipated. The facility itself is world class and I can’t image there being a better facility and training establishment in the world.
“What the job entails is to take up the training operation and purchasing a large bloodstock band every year, as well as travelling the Carnival horses all around the world.”
