Cross Counter is set to defend his Melbourne Cup crown
Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby has indicated last years Melbourne Cup winner Cross Counter will return this year to defend his crown.
Cross Counter raced in the Gold Cup at Ascot overnight (4000m) where he finished a very respectable fourth behind star stayer Stradivarius.
Appleby was interviewed post race where he said Cross Counter will now likely head to the Goodwood Cup before heading back to Melbourne for the 2019 Melbourne Cup.
Cross Counter is currently the $15 favourite for this years Melbourne Cup.
