Black Type for a filly is very important for their future as a broodmare.
Last start Flemington winner Exit is Adelaide bound in the search of a Stakes race victory in the Listed H C Nitschke Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.
The Ciaron Maher-trained filly is also in the Group 3 James H B Carr Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday but there is no jockey engaged while leading South Australian jockey Rochelle Milnes has been booked in Adelaide.
National Assistant Trainer for the Ciaron Maher stable Jack Turnbull said the Adelaide race looked the softer of the two options.
“Hopefully we can get a Black Type victory and that’s why we’re going,” Turnbull said.
“There was a horse in Sydney that was undefeated and obviously the one to beat, and it was drawn outside us, but we’ve decided on Adelaide given it’s a more realistic chance in terms of winning.
“She was an expensive yearling and if we can get Black Type on her page with victory as a three-year-old, it would be huge for her.”
Exit has won two of her eight starts to date, and Turnbull expects the filly to get better with more experience.
At her most recent outing over 1400m at Flemington, Exit strode clear on heavy ground to record an easy win under Jamie Melham.
Exit broke her maiden with a win at Sandown last July on soft ground.
“She will continue to get better, and she’s really come on with the blinkers,” Turnbull said.
“The trip is just right also, the 1400 metres.
“She can be pretty tactical over the trip. You can stick her anywhere and from barrier six she should be in the first four or five.
“She actually favours soft going, so if they do get any rain, it will only play into her favour.”
