The Jason Warren and Dean Krongold stable registered a longshot race-to-race double at Sandown.
It had Mornington-based Warren scratching his head trying to remember his last city double after $26 chance Eureka Street won the Tile Importer Handicap (2100m) on Wednesday.
That win followed the victory of Seb Song at $17 in the IVE> Print Handicap (1400m).
“I couldn’t tell you the last time I had a city double, it was quite a while ago,” Warren said.
Warren got some extra satisfaction from the victory of Eureka Street who ran out a two-length winner.
A rising nine-year-old, Eureka Street is one of owner Barb Saunders’ favourite gallopers, winning seven of his 41 starts and more than $400,000 in prize money.
“He put the writing on the board last start at Mornington when he was held up bit getting to the line but ran a gallant third,” Warren said.
“This horse at eight years of age, he’s had I think three tendon injuries, so it’s been a big job by everyone connected with the horse.
“He’s Barb’s favourite horse and it’s great to see him salute for her.”
Warren is hopeful Seb Song may return to the form that saw him win at The Valley as a three-year-old which was followed by offers of sale from Hong Kong.
“Ern Clarke, the major owner in him, said we’ve got a nice horse, hang on to him, keep him here and have a bit of fun,” Warren said.
Wednesday’s win was Seb Song’s first since scoring first-up at Cranbourne last May.
“He’s proven to us previously that he’s got a liking for wet ground and today was a nice, even track with a bit of give in it,” Warren said.
“I do believe he has got a Saturday win in him.
“He has been knocking on the door at Saturday level against three-year-olds and I think this time in he can go to that next handicap level.”
