Caulfield Guineas hopeful Longma continues his preparations for a shot at the big time this spring in a jump-out at Sandown on Tuesday.
Trainer Mick Price is taking the impressive off-season debut winner to Sandown for a hit-out ahead of the colt’s introduction to city, and stakes, racing at Flemington on Saturday week.
Longma made a big impression when he won by eight lengths easing down on debut in a Werribee 2YO maiden last month and is a $15 chance in the TAB fixed odds market for the Group One Caulfield Guineas (1600m).
The colt is scheduled to run in the Group Two Danehill Stakes (1200m) on September 7.
“We’ve got a good opinion of him. He’s going straight in at the deep end but it’s that time of year,” Price said.
“He has an ambitious owner and trainer.”
Price said the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) was the target.
Longma is by Golden Slipper winner Sebring out of the mare Yes She Can Cancan, making him a half-brother to last year’s Group One Coolmore Classic winner Ofcourseican and South African Group One winner Gimmethegreenlight.
Craig Newitt rode Longma at Werribee and has the ride in the Danehill Stakes.
The jockey said the colt was one of the horses he was looking forward to riding heading into the spring.
“He’s a pretty imposing colt and I think he’s in for a good campaign,” Newitt said.
