Retiring jockey Damien Oliver, a dominant figure in Melbourne Cup Week, is set to receive an enduring tribute.
The Victoria Racing Club announced that the $500,000 Group 2 Linlithgow Stakes on Victoria Derby Day will be renamed The Damien Oliver.
The news broke just hours after Oliver confirmed he would bow out following Perth’s Summer Carnival.
This means that the upcoming Cup Week will be his swan song, and he aims to secure one more Melbourne Cup to add to his extraordinary collection of trophies.
Oliver holds the record for the most wins at the Melbourne Cup Carnival, boasting 85 victories.
He has also claimed the VRC Oaks title an impressive seven times.
If Oliver clinches a fourth Melbourne Cup this year, he will join legendary jockeys Harry White and Bobbie Lewis as the most decorated in the history of the iconic race.
