Former NZ filly Dream Queen will chase a second stakes victory in the Red Roses Stakes

Dream Queen flew the flag for Lindsay Park at the Cox Plate meeting at The Valley and they will be hoping she can do so again at Flemington.

The daughter of Super Easy runs in the Group 3 Red Roses Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on Thursday, her third start for trainers Ben and JD Hayes.

Dream Queen started her career in New Zealand and was heavily backed at her first start for the stable at Mornington on October 7 before coming out 16 days later to score in the Listed Crockett Stakes (1200m) at The Valley.

Importantly that victory at The Valley was on a soft track and those conditions are likely to prevail again at Flemington on Thursday.

“She flew the flag for us on Cox Plate Day and she’s trained on really well since,” JD Hayes said.

“She showed us on Saturday that when we gave her a first bit of striding work since that race that she had handled everything well and invited herself to run in the Red Roses.

“She’s been based at Flemington for the last month and she seems to be enjoying a little bit of stimulation being down here.”

Hayes said it had been a busy time for the daughter of Super Easy, despite only having had the two Australian starts.

And depending on Thursday’s performance, her preparation may extend to later in the month, although the stable is looking forward to an autumn campaign with the filly.

“It will be capping off a big month for her,” Hayes said.

“She went 16 days from Mornington to The Valley and then its 12 days to Oaks Day, but we’ve got an opinion of her and hopefully she’ll be flying the flag for us.

“We may look at the Twilight Glow (at Caulfield) or something like that if she continues to handle her racing, but she’ll tell us.”
