The racing community is coming together this week to support the Victorian Good Friday Appeal, with Ladbrokes committing to a major contribution at Friday’s dual-code meeting at Cranbourne.
In a symbolic gesture, the topweight in each of the eight thoroughbred races will carry the colours of the Good Friday Appeal. For every topweight that wins, Ladbrokes will donate $2,000 to the charity, with a minimum guaranteed contribution of $10,000.
Andrew Hannan, Executive Director at Entain (parent company of Ladbrokes), said the initiative is about giving back.
“The Good Friday Appeal holds a special place in the hearts of Victorians,” Hannan said to Racing.com. “We’re thrilled to partner with Southside Racing to support such a meaningful cause.”
“The work done by the Appeal provides vital support for those who need it most, and racing is once again showing its power to make a difference.”
In addition to Ladbrokes’ pledge, Southside Racing and local trainers are doing their part. Trainers of locally-prepared winners will donate $250 each, and Southside Racing will add $750 more per local victory.
Racegoers will also be contributing simply by attending—$5 from every adult general admission ticket will be donated to the Appeal. For those buying tickets online, a complimentary drink voucher is also included.
Southside Racing Chairman Sean Clarkson praised the industry’s unified support.
“It’s fantastic to see local trainers getting behind the cause,” he said. “It shows how united the racing community can be when it comes to helping others.”
“Ladbrokes continues to lead by example, and we’re incredibly grateful for their consistent support of this special race meeting.”
The funds raised will benefit the Royal Children’s Hospital, a cornerstone of the Good Friday Appeal’s efforts to provide life-changing care to children and families across Victoria.
