22-year-old jockey Kiran Quilty continues her recovery in the hospital following a racing accident at Townsville last Friday.
Quilty was injured when her horse tripped over the heels of another, just before crossing the finish line. The daughter of fellow jockey Cameron Quilty, she sustained a minor brain bleed, a severe concussion, facial lacerations, a broken nose, and body bruises.
Quilty’s condition is gradually improving, and she is expected to stay in the hospital until later this week.
Since moving north in April under new mentors Georgie and Aidan Holt, the apprentice jockey has won four races. Her partner, Henry Jaggard, a picnic jockey himself, has been by her side in Queensland.
Jaggard commented, “It’s a shame because she’s been going well and loving the move.”
He added, “She is very thankful to the paramedics and the ambulance for the swift work they did, she’s been very well looked after by the nurses and doctors at Townsville Hospital and extremely thankful for the people that have reached out to check in on her.”
Quilty has clinched 55 victories in her career.
